Interaction + Observation

We met in Fort Greene Park on a sunny morning and spent about 40 mins with two dogs, a Corgi and an American Eskimo. The Corgi’s name is Isco, he is 6 years old and the American Eskimo’s name is Didi, who is 5.5 years old. They grew up together. Isco joined the family 6 months earlier than Didi, and he is the boss at home.

Isco is super smart and he learns fast. He taught Didi where to pee and poop when he first joined the family when he was a 2-month old puppy. They have polar opposite tempers – Isco is social, energetic and talkative. Didi is extremely quiet and shy.

We walked them in the park and made some observation of their behaviors:

  • Isco is the pathfinder, he mainly takes the lead about where to go

  • Didi always follows. He only pees at the same spot that Isco pees

  • Isco loves finding and chasing squirrels, Didi does not care about squirrels at all

  • Didi eats grass, Isco doesn’t

  • Didi eats mud, Isco doesn’t

  • Isco always tries to interact with other dogs, Didi always tries to avoid other dogs

  • Isco greets strangers with a lot of jumps and barks, Didi greets strangers with some gentle sniffs and licks
