Mapping Vermeer's Colors to Sound Frequencies with p5.js Oscillators
Fall 2022
Course: Computational Media
Instructor: John Henry Thompson
When the mouse is pressed and dragged on the canvas, a piece of synthetic sound is played. This project experiments with the p5 oscillator and aims to represent Vermeer's painting "Girl with a Red Hat" from a technical perspective. The dominant colors in the painting are red and blue. Consequently, the R (red) and B (blue) levels of the RGB of each pixel, when the mouse is over them, are taken and mapped to frequency and amplitude, respectively. This mapping creates a unique representation of the painting through basic synthetic sounds.
