THE SECRET LIFE OF COFFEE BEANS
Story Design + Stop Motion
Fall 2022
Course: Hypercinema
Instructor: Gabe Colombo

Introduction
In this project, our task was to create two stories and incorporate stop motions. Both stories revolve around the lives of two coffee beans, aiming to blend elements of humor, seriousness, and thought-provoking moments. Each story has the ability to loop independently. However, what adds an enjoyable twist is that these two stories can seamlessly merge into one longer narrative when combined.
Implementation
Story I:
In a peaceful and quiet park scene, a coffee bean walks towards a bench and sits on it. Overwhelmed by loneliness, the bean begins to cry. Another bean arrives and joins the first bean, sparking a connection. Love blossoms between them, and they decide to leave together, planning to grab a drink. The scene shifts back to the park.
Story II:
The setting transitions to a bustling coffee shop. The beans enter, coffee is served, and they start drinking. As they savor their drinks, they suddenly realize the process of how coffee is made, leaving them shocked. Overwhelmed, they faint, causing chaos as coffee cups are thrown. The scene returns to the coffee shop.
Stop Motions
Two well-planned, designed, and crafted GIFs resulted from a collaborative effort. I handled the drawings, while Dror and Sam took charge of photographing the coffee beans and handling the editing process.
