IFINITE IMAGE
Runway
Week 07 | 03/08/2023
The infinite image by Runway lets users seamlessly expand an existing image by generating context-aware elements through descriptive text prompts.
We started from the painting The Anatomy Lesson of Dr. Nicolaes Tulp by Rembrandt, and then introduced Vermeer’s Girl with a Pearl Earring right after, on the right side of Rembrandt — we were looking to put more viewers in the anatomy lesson.
A dress for the girl, a table and a tablecloth with the iconic “Vermeer Blue'' was generated to fill the imaginary canvas. In order to give the piece more contrast, we selected The Scream by Munch — the vivid color of the sky pops up elegantly and the blue color from the tablecloth and the girl’s hat naturally connect Munch and Rembrandt. The brownish dress of the girl becomes the bridge between two paintings.
On the bottom right, a small brush of flowers in Bosch’s style was added as a little surprise.
On the bottom of the canvas, due to the restriction of context-aware elements (the body from the painting), generation was very limited. Cleverly, we asked it to generate some sculptures by Michelangelo, as they are in similar colors. Runway connected two parts well enough, in my opinion.
Seems like something is missing on the wall, so we simply asked Runway to put Dali’s clock on it and then generate more viewers on the left side under Dali’s style to complete the canvas.
It is quite amazing how fast machine learning and AI generated images are being developed since 2022.
