p5.js Game Console
Finally, here our final project is. The layout of the game console went through a redesign, based on the advice from the playtest. For the final model, we chose popular wood and translucent white acrylic as the main enclosure. Black buttons, knobs, keycaps, wood joysticks as the controls. The codes in both Arduino and p5.js were updated various times in order to optimize the serial communication and the users’ experience when playing the games.
As mentioned in the previous posts, this project will focus not only on the interactivity and games, but also fabrication. Personally, I think we spent too much time in the fabrication — which in a way, is good, since the final model looks beyond our expectation — but not totally unnecessary. A nearly perfect fabrication left us little time to work on the technical part of the project. I thought representation is very important in a project — I still agree, but in the future project, I will make better time management and balance both technical and aesthetic sides of a project.
I sincerely appreciate the efforts from my partner Joann. The project would not possibly be completed without her inputs. Also, I deeply appreciate the valuable suggestions and criticisms from my professor Tom Igoe and my colleagues. It is my pleasure to work on this project.
