Introduction

In this project, we are asked to develop and prototype a physical interface using an "old" android phone (Pixel 3) that can facilitate or perform a single task.

There are a few constraints:

  • The interface should allow the user to perform a specific Monotask.

  • The interface should be designed around the limitations of the "old" phone. In this case, a Google Pixel 3.

  • The interface should be "novel" or unconventional.

  • The interface should employ at least one physical element.

Each group is assigned a bunch of limitations — we can only use the assigned functions / parts / buttons from the phone.

Inspired by the iPod Classic, we want to make a music player.

This music player only allows its users to listen to music through earbuds, it does not have a touch screen and it only occupies 25% of the screen. Users will not be able to shuffle the songs, because one of our intentions is to have the user consecutively enjoy the songs from an album. However, the user will be able to go jump to the next or previous track. The volumes will be adjustable as well. We mapped the playback options, volume control, pause/play and mute/unmute to respectively to the fingerprint sensor and the original volume buttons, in order to optimize users’ experience based on the position and orientation of the phone.
